BP puts a New Cap on the Leaking well

Energy giant BP has installed a new cap that it hopes will enclose a ruptured deep-sea oil well in the Gulf of Mexico.

The company needs to gradually shut the valves to ensure the well can handle added pressure.

If the attempt is successful, it would mark the first time in nearly three months that oil stopped flowing into the waterway. But BP has acknowledged that this fix is only a temporary solution.

BP Bring in Robots in Latest Attempt to Curb Oil Spill

May 31 (Bloomberg) -- Bloomberg's Mark Barton and Lizzie O'Leary report on BP Plc's efforts to stem the largest oil spill in U.S. history. BP will use undersea robots to begin cutting damaged pipe from its leaking oil well off Louisiana as early as today, risking temporarily increasing the flow.

Big Oil News: BP Swings to a Profit, Exxon Upgraded

BP (BP) said it swung to a profit for the fourth quarter, as crude oil prices crept higher and the company cut costs. Earnings totaled $4.3 billion for the British oil giant, as compared to a loss of $3.34 billion in the same quarter of 2008.
